Heavy rainfall likely to lash coastal Andhra, Telangana for next 48 hours: IMD

Meanwhile, a high alert has been sounded in Andhra Pradesh in the wake of rising water level in Godavari and Krishna rivers.

The Indian Meteorological Department on Monday predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring state Telangana for the next 48 hours.

"In next 48 hours coastal Andhra Pradesh will receive heavy to very heavy rainfall in most of the districts. Under the influence of upper air cyclonic circulation, in next 48 hours, Telangana state will also receive widespread rainfall in all the parts of the state," Dr K Nagarathnam from the MeT Department noted.

Andhra Pradesh received heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours, Nagarathnam attributed the weather activity to "the low-pressure area lying in Odisha, West Bengal and its adjoining areas in North West Bay of Bengal".

"West Godavari, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and some parts of Krishna and Guntur districts have received heavy rainfall," he noted.

Meanwhile, a high alert has been sounded in Andhra Pradesh in the wake of rising water level in Godavari and Krishna rivers.

Neighbouring states like Karnataka and Kerala have also been under the grip of heavy rainfall and flood.

The deluge in Kerala has claimed nearly 400 lives this monsoon season with around 7 lakh people displaced and homeless.
