Former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Gurudas Kamat died at a private hospital in New Delhi on Wednesday, Mumbai party officials said. He was 63. Kamat also served as the former Mumbai Congress President.

Kamat was a senior Congress leader and five-time parliamentarian.

Kamat had served as a member of Parliament from Mumbai’s North West parliamentary constituency in 2009 and Mumbai’s North East Constituency in 1984, 1991, 1998 and 2004.

The Congress pioneer was an Advocate by profession. 

He likewise filled in as a Minister of State in the Union Home Ministry with an extra charge of Minister of Communication and Information Technology (2009 to 2011) amid the second stretch of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
