Government slams report on India being 'most dangerous country for women'

Indian government sources called the report "nonsense". The government has reportedly asked Thomson Reuters to give the list of women in the survey.

The survey had ranked India more dangerous for women than war-torn Afghanistan and Syria. Pakistan was ranked sixth on the list.

The survey said out of a total of 548 global experts on women's issues, 43 were based in India and were asked questions relating to risks faced by women in six areas: healthcare, access to economic resources and discrimination, customary practices, sexual violence, non-sexual violence, and human trafficking.

In a similar report, Thomson Reuters had ranked India fourth on the list in 2011, ahead of Pakistan.

In the current list, India was ranked specifically as the most dangerous country for sexual violence against women, which included domestic rape, rape by a stranger, sexual harassment and the lack of access to justice in rape cases and forced labour.
