Government compulsorily retires 15 corrupt Customs officers

The government on Tuesday compulsorily retired 15 senior Customs officials in its ongoing drive against corruption. The comes more than a week after 12 senior income tax officers were dismissed from service on charges of corruption.

The list includes an ADG-rank officer against whom there are two CBI cases and faces charges of bribery.

It also includes Commissioners and Additional Commissioners, some of whom have already been suspended. Most of these case are of amassing of disproportionate assets.

In the crackdown on June 10, the list was topped by a Joint Commissioner rank officer against whom there are serious complaints of corruption and extortion from businessmen accused of helping self-styled godman Chandraswami.

Another IRS officer part of the list relased on June 10 had compulsorily retired and acquired movable and immovable assets worth over Rs 3.17 crore in the name of self and his family members. These movable and immovable properties had allegedly been acquired by abusing his official position and by corrupt and illegal means.
