Google honours filmmaker V Shantaram with doodle on birth anniversary

Google on Saturday honoured Indian film director Shantaram Rajaram Vankurde, popularly known as V Shantaram, with a doodle on his 116th birth anniversary.
The Gooogle doodle depicts three films produced and directed by "V Shantaram- Amar Bhoopali"(1951), "Jhanak Jhanak Payal baaje"(1955), and "Do Aankhen Baara haath"(1957).
VShantaram is known as a pioneer of Indian cinema and was fondly known as Annasaheb; He witnessed the evolution of cinema technology right from its silent days to the advent of digital technology and made contributions in creating technology and inventing new styles of filmmaking
He was one of the early filmmakers to realise the efficacy of the film medium as an instrument of social change and used it successfully to advocate humanism on one hand and expose bigotry and injustice on the other.
Over the decades, he produced 92 films, directed 55 films and acted in 25 films.
It is said that he "ghostwrote" music for many of his music directors, and took a very active part in the creation of music.
The Dadasaheb Phalke Award was conferred on him in 1985. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 1992.
