The Google today has honoured scientist and applied statistician and scientist Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis on his 125th anniversary by dedicating its doodle to it.
Born on 29 June 1893 in Mahalanobis, West Bengal, the statistician is best remembered for the Mahalanobis distance which is a statistical measure. 
He was also one of the members of the first Planning Commission of free India 
He laid the foundations of Indian Statistical system through the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) and Central Statistical Organisation (CSO).
He was also a techer at the Presidency College (Kolkata) in 1931 where he was one of the founders of the Indian Statistical Institute. 
Prasanta died on June 28, 1972, just a day before completing his 79th birthday.
