A Gujarat court on Thursday sentenced sacked IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt to life imprisonment in a 1990 custodial death case.

Bhat has been convicted under section IPC 302 in 1990 custodial death case. 

Pronouncing the verdict, District Judge of Jamnagar sessions court DM Vyas charged Bhatt and then police constable Pravinsinh Jhala with murder.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had quashed the sacked IPS officer's plea who sought examination of 11 additional witnesses in the case. He had claimed that the examination of these 11 witnesses was crucial for arriving at a just and fair decision in the case.
