Senior leader and former finance minister Yashwant Sinha has on Saturday quit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The veteran leader has on many occasions criticised the BJP and the Narendra Modi government.
He made the announcement at the opposition rally at Patna. The leader said democracy is under threat and slammed the Modi-led NDA government.
Making the announcement, Sinha said he would not be joining any political party, but work towards “protecting democracy”.
Sinha had formed 'Rashtra Manch' on 30 January, saying that it will be an apolitical forum to highlight the "anti-people" policies of the Centre. Leaders from the Congress and other Opposition parties had joined the event.
