'October' box office collection: Varun Dhawan, Banita Sandhu's film picks up pace in its 1st weekend

Shoojit Sircar’s October starring Varun Dhawan and Banita Sandhu in the lead roles has now strengthened its hold on the Indian box office after it opened on a decent note. The unconventional yet powerful story about love picked up the pace during the weekend as it opened to Rs 5.04 crore on Day one and ended up collecting Rs 20.25 crore (on Sunday) in its three days of release.
October tells the story of Dan played by Varun Dhawan whose life changes after his colleague Shiuli played by Banita Sandhu undergoes a terrible accident. The movie revolves around their struggle through interpersonal and intra-personal struggles.
At the onset, Sircar's October is a story of mundane life. Dhawan and newcomer Banita Sandhu play Dan and Shiuli- young 20 something Hotel Management students training in one of Delhi's five-star hotels. Shiuli is the hardworking, diligent of the lot while Dan whiles away time at work, is fickle minded, lazy and casual about almost everything in life. A freak accident brings Dan and Shiuli closer in ways they could have never imagined- and the two embark on a journey of unusual friendship, love and solidarity.
In an interview with a leading daily, Shoojit said, "It wasn’t like I wanted to work with Varun Dhawan. I saw him in my office one day and I just found some kind of honesty and innocence in him which I was looking for my character. I went on with him purely on instincts. Though he was an overnight sensation, a star, but there was something really ‘teenage’ and ‘young’ in him."
