Coming under the scanner for allegedly acting like an astute politician at the time when many were expecting Kamal Haasan to support fellow actor Rajinikanth prior to the release of his film Kaala, the actor now hints at being on the latter’s side.
Speaking at a conference, Kamal said, “'Vishwaroopam'was also banned in Karnataka, the film chambers in respective states had to sort it out. There are many fans eagerly waiting for Rajini's film to be released there. Just like the farmer's issues needs a conversation, so do films.”
This, when Kamal was dissed for not mentioning anything about the burning issue of rising threats against the release of Kaala in Karnataka.
On Tuesday, Kamal met the newly-appointed Karnataka Chief Minister Kumaraswamy in Bengaluru to discuss several issues concerning the ties between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The Cauvery water-sharing issue was top on the agenda.
Post their closed-door meeting, both the CM and Kamal displayed a certain rapport at the media briefing. But when they were questioned on Kaala and debate around its release, both dismissed it. While Kumaraswamy claimed, “It was a different issue and not necessary”, Kamal affirmed with, “Not a word was spoken about that.”
“There are film chambers and business community who will take care of it (Kaala issue). And we (Kumaraswamy and Kamal) will see that good relationship exists between both the states,” he said.
He further added, “This is more important than movies if you ask me.”
This was not taken lightly by social media fans as Kamal’s statement sounded ironic to people who remembered the time when Rajinikanth championed Kamal when the latter’s film Vishwaroopam was met with the same response by activists groups.
