Director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari says Padmavatimay be stuck in controversy for now but she is confident that the issue will be solved soon.
The Bareilly Ki Barfi director says in a democratic nation like India everyone has the freedom to express their views and the same implies to filmmakers when it comes to creative freedom.
The release date of Bhansali's period drama Padmavati has been deferred following country-wide protests by Rajput groups and politicians, who have accused Bhansali of "distorting historical facts".
Many groups have been protesting amid rumours that there was a romantic dream sequence between Rajput queen Padmini and Allauddin Khilji, a charge repeatedly denied by the director.
"I feel we as storytellers should be responsible about what we say and how we say it. And at the same time, it is important that each one of us have creative freedom to do what we want.
"But it is always a two-way process, it is always about giveand take. It is never one-sided. We do have the freedom to do what we want to do, but at any point of context, there will be a yin-yang. It is important that debate exists but it should be a two-way process," Tiwari says in an interview with PTI.
Bhansali and Deepika Padukone also received threats from various groups. Calling it "unfortunate", Tiwari says such things should not happen.
"We stay in a democratic country and each one of us has a voice and it is very unfortunate that these kind of things happen, but eventually it will get solved. That's what I believe in. I am just hoping for the best. No one wants violence."
The filmmaker was speaking on the sidelines of the International Film Festival of Goa (IFFI).
