Here's how much Sanjay Dutt has earned from the biopic 'Sanju'

Sanjay Dutt's biopic 'Sanju' has set the cash registers ringing since the day of its release. The film that has already earned more than Rs 200 crore, is still running to a packed house in the country two weeks after its release. But the story of Sanju baba apparently came at a price.

According to media reports, Sanjay Dutt was paid a hefty amount for letting the world know his story. Sources close to the film state that Dutt's team negotiated hard and producers Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Rajkumar Hirani had to pay Rs 9-10 crores to the actor before he gave his consent for the biopic. Sources also state that the actor will also be getting a part of the profit share.

A source close to the film said, " 'Sanju' didn’t come for free. Sanjay Dutt’s team negotiated hard. They finally settled for an outright Rs. 9-10 crores, plus a portion of the box office profits. Only then were the film’s producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra and director Rajkumar Hirani allowed access to Sanjay Dutt’s life.”

While the film is being lapped up by the audiences, there are others who have stated that the film does not touch upon a lot of controversial aspects of the actor's life. The biopic blocked several names and incidents from the actor's life. Names of famous ex-girlfriends were also not taken as they are now married.

“It was made clear from the beginning that it would be a selective bio-pic, and Rajkumar Hirani was okay with that,” the source added.

The film featuring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role released in theatres on 29th July.
