Daas Dev trailer: Sudhir Mishra gives a political spin to Sarat Chandra's Devdas

Daas Dev

Story highlights

The film is set in the backdrop of state politics.

It is a story that is well known and has been adapted many times on the big screen. Yet Sudhir Mishra's Daas Dev looks rather different as it adapts Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's Devdas and gives it a modern, political spin.

The film's trailer was released by the makers on Wednesday and features Rahul Bhatt as Dev, a lovelorn individual who has to take up politics because of his family. Richa Chadha plays Paro and Aditi Rao Hydari plays Chandni. The film also features Vineet Singh, who recently shined in Mukkabaaz, Vipin Sharma and the veteran Saurabh Shukla.

However, Mishra says that his film is inspired by the novel and not an adaptation. "I am not making 'Devdas'. My film is not based on Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay's novel. I apologise to him for reversing the story. If you want to see his version then don't come and see it. I am acknowledging the inspiration. This is a different story. The film is about addiction of power and through that there is Dev, Paro and Chandni. Pressure is always there when you make a film. We all have worked very hard on it," Mishra told reporters at the trailer launch of the film.

The film will be releasing in theatres on 23 March.
