'Baahubali: The Conclusion' struggles in China, records poor response

The film couldn't live up to its hype
In another shocking industry update, Prabhas and Rana Daggubati starrer “Baahubali: The Conclusion” continues to perform poorly at the Chinese box office, similar to the response that the first of the series “Baahubali: The Beginning” garnered in the foreign market. It has been five days now since the release of the mega-hit film releasing in China as it released on May 4 after it worked its magic in the Japanese market.
China has been a tough market to crack for filmmaker SS Rajamouli who has otherwise been able to sell both his films on other turfs. Both Baahubali 1 and 2 was declared a mega blockbuster hit in India, US and UK including other worldwide box offices apart from China.
According to Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh, Baahubali has continued to struggle. He tweeted: "Baahubali 2 continues to struggle... Remains on the lower side in CHINA...Fri $ 2.43 mn, Sat $ 2.94 mn, Sun $ 2.30 mn, Mon $ 0.89 mn, Tue $ 0.82 mn, Total: $ 9.38 mn [Rs. 63.19 cr]" (sic). It although opened to a “very good response” but failed to maintain the pace.
Before releasing in China, following in the footsteps of films that have garnered great response like “Secret Superstar”, “Bajrangi Bhaijaan”, “Hindi Medium” -- the film released in Japan and received an overwhelming response. Rajamouli tweeted earlier: "So happy to meet all the fans and film enthusiasts who made it to the 'Baahubali 2: The Conclusion' screening in Tokyo, Japan last night. The love for movies surpasses boundaries. Happy day."
It is expected that the film will not be able to pick up as the Marvel film “Avengers: Infinity War” is scheduled to release this weekend.
"Baahubali: The Conclusion"stars Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Tamannah Bhatia and Ramya Krishna. The sequel which released in April made a historical collection of Rs 1500 crore in the domestic box office.
