Alia Bhatt on pay parity: Actor's fee or film budget is directly related with their reach

Young, talented and with a keen eye for great stories, Alia Bhatt has been picking the most versatile content in recent times for any Bollywood actress. Stunning us all with her recent film Raazi, Alia beautifully carried out the role of an Indian spy under the garb of a normal Kashmiri Muslim girl who happens to get married into an influential Pakistani family.

In an interview, Alia spoke about competition between actresses of the industry and whether it affects her. On whether she has moved ahead of her contemporaries after Raazi was well received at the box office, Alia said, “The minute you start believing that you deserve this, then there’s a problem. If you deserve something, you’ll get it. We shouldn’t try and control things.”

She said that she is not competing with anyone and added, “I can’t let that affect my choices. I’ll neither undervalue nor overvalue myself because there’s a certain arrogance that comes along with it. Sometimes you do it for the right reasons, sometimes you don’t.”

Alia is also very clear about the issue of the wage gap in Bollywood or Hollywood. She, however, has a very hands-down approach to the issue as she feels that actor’s reach is directly proportional to the money invested in their film and the pay that the actor receives.

Elaborating on the issue, she said, “Investing money in a film is directly correlated to the people you are bringing to the theatre. I’m not delusional that the same number of viewers who go to watch Varun’s movies will come to see my work. He has a wider reach than me. That’s why I can’t expect that the same amount of money, which is invested in his solo-starrers, is invested in mine, too. Also, it’s the subject that makes a film viable. We can’t be categorical about everything because every actor and movie is different.”

When asked if she would let go of her fees or reduce it if the content connects with her, Alia responds: “Never say never, but I won’t let go of a movie that I like because of remuneration. I’ll find a way around it. I’ll still do it because the emotional attachment to my work is way more than the monetary one.”

Apart from being involved in work, Alia has been recently spotted with boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor, who admitted that they fell in love on the sets of Brahmastra and have been dating for a bit now. He called their relationship "new" and asked for some "privacy"for it to grow.
