EC announces Gujarat poll dates
The votes will be counted on December 18
India's Election Commission today announced dates for Gujarat assembly polls to be held in December.
The Election Commission said the first phase of polls in Gujarat will be conducted on December 9th and the second phase on December 14th.
The counting of votes will be held on December 18th.
"No candidate can spend more than Rs 28 lakhs on campaigning," Chief Election Commissioner(CEC) AK Joti said.
"Model code of conduct is now in effect," the CEC added.
While declaring the Himachal election dates a few weeks back, the commission had announced that the counting of votes in both the states would take place on December 18.
The election body had comeunder attack from the opposition parties for not announcing the dates for Gujarat assembly elections along with Himachal Pradesh.
Election Commission officials had said that multiple factors, including the weather, were considered before deciding to hold the elections in Himachal Pradesh earlier than Gujarat.
Himachal Pradesh will go to the polls on November 9.
