The Election Commission will hold biennial elections in 58 Rajya Sabha seats from 16 states which are falling vacant on April 2.

The elections will be conducted to fill the seats of the members who are retiring in April- May 2018.

The members retiring from their seatsincludeunion ministers Ravi Shankar Prasad, Dharmendra Pradhan, J P Nadda, Thaawarchand Gehlot and Ramdas Athawale.

A by-election for Rajya Sabha seat in Kerala willalso take place, the seat of whichfell vacant after the resignation of MP Veerendra Kumar in December. Kumar's tenurewas to end in April 2022.

The voting for the elections is scheduled for March 23.

The last date for filing of nominations is March 12.
