A day after Independence Day in Delhi, a drunk man triggered a security scare in Indira Gandhi International airport as he tried to "hijack" a car he was travelling in and made an attempt to enter the airport.
According to a report by PTI, the 27-year-old man has been identified as Shankar who is a resident of Sangam Vihar in Delhi. He is a bouncer at a nightclub by profession.
The man also had a scuffle with the CISF personnel as they tried to stop him during which two shots were also fired in the air.
Shankar sitting at the back seat kicked the driver out of the vehicle, took his position and tried to speed away, a senior police official was quoted saying by PTI.
The CISF personnel managed to stop the man, who then got into a physical fight with them, he added.
The CISF personnel pinned him to the ground and tied him the rope during which he also tried to snatch a pistol of a jawan, who subsequently fired two rounds in the air in order to bring the situation under control.
The man was finally handed over to the Delhi police who is now probing the matter.
He has been booked under the sections 186, 353 and 332 of Indian Penal Code.
No weapon was recovered from his possession and no terror-like link was established, the official said, adding that it was not clear why the man was headed towards the airport as he had no flight to catch.
