Director of Bhopal shelter home arrested for allegedly raping differently-abled girl

Police on Thursdayarrested the director of a government-aided shelter home for the hearing and speaking impaired on charges of raping a 19-year-old tribal girl for several months.

Two fellows of the victim's narrated her ordeal to a sign language expert in Indore. The two sisters who blew the lid had also been molested by the accused.

Bhopal Superintendent of Police (SP) said that they have arrested a man following a complaint by a differently-abled girl.

''Based on a complaint of a differently-abled girl at a Bhopal shelter home, man has been arrested on charges of raping her,'' SP said.

The victim claimed that the accused raped her several times at the shelter home's hostel.

20-25 girls stay at shelter home.

Police registered a case and are investigating.

The latest incident of rape at the shelter home comes on the backdrop of similar rape incidents at Muzaffarpur shelter home in Bihar and Deoria shelter home in Uttar Pradesh. Several arrests have been made in both the incidents.Bihar’s social welfare minister Manju Verma resigned recently in the wake of Muzaffarpur shelter home case. Her husband has been accused of having links with alleged mastermind Brajesh Thakur in Muzaffarpur incident.
