Delhi Police form special team to investigate Swati Maliwal's assault allegations against Kejriwal's aide

Delhi Police have set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal's assault allegations against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's close aide Bibhav Kumar.

The SIT is headed by Anjitha Chepyala, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for North Delhi and it will be looking into Maliwal's claims that she was assaulted at Kejriwal's residence on May 13.

The team will report their findings to senior officials after a thorough investigation.

Meanwhile, Swati Maliwal, former chief of the Delhi Commission for Women, has accused AAP leaders of endangering her relatives by posting their personal details on social media.

While tackling the allegations that her actions were taken on the instructions of the BJP, Maliwal said, “Since yesterday, Delhi ministers are spreading lies that an FIR has been filed against me for corruption."

“The case is completely fake on which the Hon’ble High Court has stayed for 1.5 years, who have accepted that no money transaction has taken place. According to them, until I filed a complaint against Bibhav Kumar, I was “Lady Singham” and today I have become a BJP agent?” she asked.

Delhi police visitKejriwal's residence

Notably, Delhi police visited Kejriwal's official residence in Civil Lines, Delhi, to gather details about the events of May 13 in the CM's drawing room. Both Maliwal and Kumar were brought to the scene to recount the incident. The police are now scrutinising their statements.

The police also visited Kumar's residence, attempting to recover his mobile data, which they allege was formatted before his arrest on Saturday. They are also investigating possible tampering with CCTV footage.

When Kumar was brought to Delhi's Tis Hazari court, police revealed that the DVR footage of the incident had not been provided despite a notice. Instead, an officer provided a pen drive with CCTV clips. However, the pen drive turned out to be blank for the relevant time. The court has remanded Kumar to five days in police custody.

Following this, police seized the CCTV DVR from Kejriwal's home on Sunday for further investigation.

Maliwal taking to X wrote, "lies don't last long. But in the intoxication of power and in the passion to bring someone down, it should not happen that when the truth comes out, you are not able to look even your family in the eye."

"I will take you to court for every lie you spread!," the former Delhi women's panel chief said in her latest post, threatening to sue AAP leaders over their defamatory remarks about her.
