Delhi IAS coaching centre flooding: Who were the three students killed in Old Rajinder Nagar?

In a tragic incident, three Delhi students died Saturday evening (Jul 27) after the basement of their coaching centre in the Old Rajinder Nagar area got flooded followingheavy rains. The students were preparing for one of India's toughest exams: Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The three dead students were identified as Shreya Yadav from Uttar Pradesh, Tania Soni from Telangana, and Nevin Dalwin from Kerala.
On Sunday, the area witnessed a major protest by UPSC aspirants, held by students of various coaching centres over the deaths. The families of the victims blamed the authorities as well as the coaching institute for negligence. Here we look at the three unfortunate students who lost their lives in the tragic incident.
Tania Soni
The 25-year-old girl hailed from Secunderabad in Telangana. Tania was preparing for the UPSC examination at Rau’s coaching centre.
On Saturday, she couldn't escape the sudden influx of stormwater into the basement and lost her life.
Shreya Yadav
The 25-year-old girl was from Ambedkar Nagar in Uttar Pradeshand hadjoined the coaching centre in Aprilwith the ambitionof clearing one of the country's toughest examinations. She was the eldest of three siblings.
She had a B.Sc. degree in Agriculture from the Kamla Nehru Institute of Technology in Sultanpur and was "very smart" in her studies, according to her family members.
Shreya's father, Rajendra Yadav, said the institute had experienced a similar incident in the past as well but didn't act upon it. He also claimed the institute didn't inform him about the death of his daughter and he came to know about it only through the media.
Nevin Dalwin
The 28-year-old student hailed from Kerala’s Ernakulam. He came to Delhi in December last year and was pursuing a PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University.
Dalwin's family moved to Ernakulam around 12 years ago from the Thiruvananthapuram district.
Latest developments
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Sunday formed a high-level committee to investigate the matter, and it found the coaching centre to be flouting several norms.
The Delhi Police has arrested coordinator of Rau’s IAS Study Circle and the building owner.
