Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday defended the Rafale aircraft deal saying that the government had no role in Dassault choosing Reliance as offset partner.

Sitharaman was speaking at the India Summit 2018.

To a question of an alleged scam, Sitharaman said defence procurements are complicated one and Congress has been “brazenly” misleading the nation despite being totally aware of the rules in the Rafale deal.

Sitharaman said that BJP-led NDA government has brought greater transparency in defence deals and added Dassault hasn't informed her about offset partner.

The government had no role in Dassault choosing the offset partner, she said and added that Opposition is going to fail on the issue.
