Complaint filed against Congress leader Azad, Soz for making 'seditious comments against army'

Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad had said earlier that the army operations in Jammu and Kashmir have killed more civilians than terrorists.

A criminal complaint has been filed against senior Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Saifuddin Soz in Delhi's Patiala House Court on Friday for making 'seditious statements against Indian Army'.

Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad had said earlier that the army operations in Jammu and Kashmir have killed more civilians than terrorists.

While Saifuddin Soz had recently backed anti-India statement made by former Pakistan President Pervez Mushraffwhere he claimed that if given a choice Jammu and Kashmir would prefer to remain independent and not join India.

The complaint has been filed against the leaders by an advocate for "inciting disaffection in the minds of people against Indian Army and Government of India".

The plea seeks actions against the Congress leaders under sections 124 (sedition), 120 B (criminal conspiracy) and 505(1) (spreading rumour about army/navy/air force).

The matter is scheduled for hearing on Saturday (June 30) at the magisterial court in Delhi.
