"It took four months and ten days for commonsense to germinate, flower and ripen into a fruit," the Congress leader said in the first of several tweets posted on his Twitter handle on Friday.
"Congress is vindicated. I am vindicated. The merit of capping GST at 18 percent is now recognised," Chidambaram tweeted on Friday.
The BJP) government at the Centre realisedits mistake as Gujarat Assembly electionis around the corner, he further said.
Responding to Chidambaram's allegations,Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said GSTwas adopted taking all political parties into consideration and every change that has been made was done after looking into one's needs.
Congress has just been trying to misinterpret the fact.
"Modiji government listens to everything that public says and respond to people. The GST was implemented with the agreement of all political parties. We are ready if there is a need for any change like the Centre did in yesterday's GST Council meeting. The Congress party is trying to misinterpret the fact," new agency ANI quotedSitharaman as saying.
