A chartered plane crashed into an under-construction building in Mumbai's Ghatkopar on Thursday afternoon, leading to the deaths of five people.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation said the dead included the plane's two pilots, two maintenance engineers on board, and a man on the ground.
The crash occurred at around 1 pm.
Video and photographs on social media showed the plane, by then engulfed in flames, had crashed into the side of the building.
Smoke rose from the crash site. One particularly gruesome video also seemed to show the charred body of the man on the ground who had been killed in the crash.
The plane,a 12-seater Beechcraft King Air C90 turboprop, belonged to Mumbai's UY Aviation, and had been been sold to the company by the Uttar Pradesh government in 2014.
"The deal was done after the plane had met with an accident in Allahabad," Principal Secretary, UP, Avnish Awasthi was quoted as saying by the news agency ANI.
Fire brigade teams were rushed to the spot after the crash.
