Chandigarh Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Schedule and Date:The Union Territory of Chandigarh is voting in the final phase of India's Lok Sabha elections on Saturday (June 1).

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on March 16 announced the election schedule of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections for 28 states and eight union territories.

Rajiv Kumar, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) announced that polling will start in the country on April 19, lasting till June 1. The results will be announced on June 4.

For the Union Territory of Chandigarh, the last date of filing nominations, as per the Election Commission announcement, was May 14. This year,BJP has decided to replace the incumbent MP Kirron Kher with Sanjay Tandon, whoserved as a Municipal Councillor in Punjab for 14 years and also won six assembly elections in Punjab.

Chandigarh Lok Sabha Elections 2019 - A Recap

In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, Chandigarh witnessed a 74.2 per cent voter turnout, with BJP's Kirron Kher securing victory over former Congress Minister Pawan Bansal.

This victory mirrored Kher's win in 2014 when the Bollywood actress garnered 231,188 votes compared to Bansal's 184,218.

Prior to Kher's tenure, Pawan Bansal, a Congress leader, had represented Chandigarh for three consecutive terms — 1999, 2004, and 2009.

In 2019, actress Kirron Kher, a Bharatiya Janta Party candidate, won the Chandigarh Lok Sabha constituency with a margin of 46,970 votes over major contender Pawan Kumar Bansal.

Facts About Chandigarh Lok Sabha Elections 2024

Chandigarh holds the unique distinction of being the capital of two Indian states: Punjab and Haryana.

According to new data, Chandigarh currently has 647,000 registered voters, comprising 335,000 males, 312,000 females, and 33 third-gender voters.

Among these, 15,006 are first-time voters aged 18-19, while 4,799 are voters over 85 years old.

The largest group falls in the 30-39 age bracket, with 162,000 voters, followed by the 40-49 and 20-29 age groups with 138,000 and 125,000voters, respectively.

Chandigarh has a total of 614 polling booths, up from 597 in the last general election of 2019.
