BMW hit-and-run: Bar that sold beer to accused Mihir Shah faces license suspension

Officials have announced that the license of a Mumbai bar from which the BMW hit-and-run accused Mihir Shah allegedly bought four beer bottles before hitting a couple on their bike last Sunday has been temporarily suspended.

According to police sources, Mihir Shah was "heavily drunk... and on a joyride" when the tragic crash that claimed the life of the woman on the bike happened.

Mihir and his driver bought beer from Sai Prasad Bar in Malad and drank it inside the car after leaving a Juhu bar where he had been drinking with friends.

According to police sources, the bar's license has been suspended since they served the accused after the deadline. When the officials searched the premises, they discovered that the security camera footage had been wiped out.

Mihir Shah and three friends had consumed 12 glasses of 60 ml whiskey at the Vice-Global Tapas Club in Juhu before he headed to the Malad Club for round two.

They left the bar at 11:00 pm. The bar, which was partially demolished for serving liquor to 24-year-old Shah, who is underage, claimed he used a fake ID saying he was 27.

The accused Mihir Shah is the son of politician Rajesh Shah, who is a member of the Shiv Sena faction led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Police in Mumbai's Worli area said that the 24-year-old was driving the BMW which hit 45-year-old Kaveri Nakhwa and injured her husband Pradeep. The couple was riding their two-wheeler. Mihir's driver, Rajrishi Bidawat, was also present in the car.

CCTV footage shows that after the collision, Nakhwa was dragged for 1.5 km before the BMW stopped. The police said the footage also revealed that Shah switched seats with Bidawat, removed the woman's body from under the car, and left it on the road before driving away.
