Bihar flood toll reaches 253, 1.26 crore affected

The death toll in Bihar floods has risen to 253 and the number of people affected from the floods has gone up to 1.26 crore.

The total number of districts hit by floods is 18 and no new district has been added, a PTI report said.

The number of flood-hit people was 1.21 crore on Saturday.

The worst hit districts include Araria (57 deaths), Sitamarhi (31 deaths), West Champaran (29 deaths), Katihar (23 deaths), East Champaran (19 deaths).

Around 4.21 lakh people have been shifted to 1,358 relief camps, a Disaster Management release said.

Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar and senior officials from the administration took an aerial survey of some of the flood-hit districts.

Twenty-eight teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and 16 teams of the State Disaster Response Force have been deployed for rescue and relief operations.

The number of community kitchens have also been increased to serve food to the flood-hit people.
