Andaman and Nicobar Islands Lok Sabha elections 2024:BJP’s Bishnu Pada Ray is currently leadingCongress’s Kuldeep Rai Sharma on the lone seat inAndaman and Nicobar.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands went to polls in the first phase of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 on April 19. As per the Election Commission of India, the voter turnout in the union territory stood at around 64 per cent.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Kuldeep Rai Sharma of the Indian National Congress (INC) emerged victorious in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Lok Sabha constituency, the sole parliamentary seat in the Union Territory, with 95,308 votes. Sharma secured victory by a narrow margin of 1,407 votes over Vishal Jolly of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The voter turnout was 65.18% with 16 candidates contesting.

This constituency represents the entire territory, making it a pivotal battleground for political parties wrestling to establish a presence in the region. Prior to the 1967 Lok Sabha elections, the President of India directly appointed the Member of Parliament for this territory. However, since the 1967 election, the MP has been elected through adult franchise.
