The cops first took the cows over which Rakbar Khan was lynched to a shelter, then visited the police station, had tea, and only then took Rakbar to hospital. By the time they got there, he was dead

News reports said Monday that the policemen taking the Alwar lynching victim to hospital stopped en route for tea.

Rakbar aka Akbar Khan was lynched in Rajasthan Lallwandi's village on Friday night. Another man with him was beaten. They were accused of transporting cows for slaughter.

This was the third lynching in Alwar within a year.

The reports added that the policemen first took the cows to a shelter, then went to the police station — which is reportedly only a stone's throw away from thehospital — so that Rakbar could change his clothes, and only then did they take him to hospital.

On the way of course, they reportedly stopped for tea.

By time they got to hospital, Rakbar was declared brought dead. The reports said he had by then been in police custody for 3 hours and 45 minutes.

The reports also quoted an eyewitness as saying Rakbar was beaten by the police and not by the mob.

That accusation was made earlier by BJP MLA Gyan Dev Ahuja — that it was the police who beat Rakbar and not the mob that lynched him.

The union ministry of home affairs meanwhile has asked the Rajasthan government for a report on the matter.
