The contempt plea is now scheduled for hearing on August 20.

The Supreme Court on Monday said that it will hear a contempt plea against the Rajasthan government on August 20 in the case of the lynching of28-year-old Rakbar Khan in Rajasthan's Alwar district.

Petitioners Tushar Gandhi and Tehseen Poonawalla brought up the matter before the court and wanted it to be taken up this week but the Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra said it will be heard in August.

In their contempt pleas, Poonawalla and Gandhi alleged that offences were taking place despite the Supreme Court verdict on cow vigilantism.

Senior Advocate Indira Jaising moved a contempt petition in the matter, alleging Rajasthan Government’s non-compliance of SC directions to curb mob lynching. The matter was mentioned on Monday before Chief Justice Dipak Misra by Jaising, seeking an urgent listing.

“The contempt will be taken up with the main matter”, said the Chief Justice.

The contempt plea is now scheduled for hearing on August 20. The order passed by the Court on July 17 had issued several guidelines to Central and State Governments to curb cow vigilantism and mob lynching and has posted the matter on August 20 to report compliance.
