Alphonso mangoes find no takers in Mumbai amid coronavirus lockdown

Mumbai is under lockdown owing to a large number of coronaviurs cases, causing a major impact on the sales on Alphonso mangoes in the city.

No sale has been recorded in several weeks, and traders are suffering losses.

"It is the month of Ramadan, this is the time to sell, but there is no sale because everyone is afraid, they can't come. We are suffering losses," mango trader Abdul Malik Ansari told ANI.

The mangoes are exported to many Middle Eastern and European countries from India.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra government has decided to allow standalone shops including liquor shops to open in green, orange and red zone areas, but not in containment zones.

The coronavirus cases in Maharashtra have reached 12,296, including 2,000 discharged cases and 521 deaths.

The Centre on Friday extended the ongoing nationwide lockdown till May 17, while allowing different sets of relaxations in red, orange and green zones.
