BJP general secretary Rajendra Singh had said recently that the party would contest in all the 22 seats it had won in 2014 general elections

Janata Dal (United), BJP's alliance partner in Biharannounced on Monday that it would contest elections on the highest number of seats among the NDA allies in the state in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

The party further added that the BJP was free to fight the elections alone without forming an alliance.

The announcement has come amid the ongoing tussle between the BJP and the JD(U) over contesting on more number of seats in the general elections.

BJP general secretary Rajendra Singh had said recently that the party would contest in all the 22 seats it had won in 2014 general elections.

The JD(U) on the other hand wants seat sharing for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections to be based on the party's performance in 2015 state assembly polls.

JD(U) general secretary Sanjay Singh had said earlier that the BJP can contest the elections without any alliance and field candidates in all 40 Lok Sabha seats. He also said that the BJP will not be able to win in Bihar without the support of Nitish Kumar.

BJP is already having a tough time with its ally Shiv Sena in Maharashtra which has decided to contest the Lok Sabha polls separately.
