A day after Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg apologised to the US lawmakers for "failingto secure the data of users"on the social media giant, Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has demanded an apology from Congress president Rahul Gandhi.
He tweeted "Now that Cambridge Analytica's role in manipulating elections is clear and Facebook has assured to stop it and maintain the integrityof India's elections, probity demands that @RahulGandhi should apologise and promise not to manipulate voters and divide the society in future".
Days before several reports had revealed how the consulting firm "Cambridge Analytica"used data scraped from 87 million Facebook users to target political advertisements ahead of the 2016 US election.
Rahul Gandhi had earlier attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi of passing data of people who sign up for his official NaMo app to American companies.
He tweeted " Hi! My name is Narendra Modi. I am India's Prime Minister. When you sign up for my official Ap, I give all your data to my friends in American companies".
His attack was followed after a French security researcher had accused PM Modi of passing on the data of people connected to NaMo app.
The government had responded to the attacks by issuing a statement which said: "The data exposed by the French Twitter user is the data entered by the user on his own device. This is not a security breach. The person does not have access to any data apart from his own data."
