In the letter, in which he addressed the Indian prime minister as "Modi sahab", Khan said it was time for India and Pakistan to start talking again.
Khan also suggested that the foreign ministers of the two countries meet.
In his letter, Imran Khan added that Pakistan "remains ready" to discuss terrorism.
Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said Thursday that the two foreign ministers — India's Sushma Swaraj and Pakistan's Shah Mehmood Qureshi — would meet in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
Kumar told a press conference Thursday that it had not been decided what would be discussed at the meeting. It had so far only been decided that the two foreign ministers would meet.
