After a series of unprecedented scenes and drama in the matter of Centre vs Delhi in the Supreme Court, senior advocate Rajeev Dhawan has said he will quit court practiceciting "humiliation".
That means he will no longer appear in court.
In his letter to Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, Dhawan complained of a humiliating end to the case of allocation of power between the Delhi government and the Lieutenant Governor, leaving him with no option but to give up his court practice.
As per media reports, the last date of hearing in the matter witnessed some unsavoury back-and-forth which irked the Chief Justice of India.
Justice Misra reportedly lashed out at the conduct of the senior lawyers, which included Dhawan, calling their demeanour atrocious, and adding he would be constrained to take action.
Justice Misra reportedly also said that the lawyers do not deserve their designation of senior advocates, or the gown they wear.
In his letter to Misra, Dhawan said he would be happy to return his gown but would like to keep it for the sake of memory.
Dhawan had appeared on behalf of the Delhi government in the matter.
