After criticism from Punjab CM, AAP leader says he never supported 2020 Referendum

Responding to the criticism of the political parties' in Punjab, AAP leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira has clarified that he never supported Referendum 2020 (Khalistan).
Sukhpal Singh Khaira said, "Someone had published a concocted report in newspaper. Following that CM Capt Amarinder Singh is reacting. Fact is I have contested five elections with allegiance to Indian constitution and never supported the cause of Referendum".
He, however, questioned the reason behind the demand for Referendum.
He said the demand for the referendum was raised in response to government's "anti-Sikh" attitude.
Khaira said, "Why is there a demand for Referendum? It's because governments of India always held an anti-Sikh attitude. Demands are in response to policy of discrimination. I request govt they work on their mistakes so Sikh community feels secure in India".
Political parties in Punjab, including the ruling Congress and the BJP, strongly criticised Aam Aadmi Party senior leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira for reportedly supporting Sikh "referendum" 2020 campaign.
Congress leaders and legislators lashed out at Khaira, the leader of opposition in Punjab Assembly, for his "open and blatant support" to the campaign aimed at seceding Punjab from India and again dividing the country along religious lines.
