Aditya Chopra summoned by ED in connection with royalty non-payment scam

As per law, lyricists and composers are entitled to 50 percent royalties earned by the companies. But these dues have been pending since 2012.
The Enforcement Directorate has summoned Aditya Chopra in connection with the alleged multi-crore royalty-non payment scam.
According to sources, the ED has also summoned Sony Music India's vice-president Shridhar Subramanium and Universal Music's MD-Ceo Devraj Sanyal to record their statement.
Confirming the news, YRK spokesperson said, "The ED visited YRF on a fact-finding mission to collect author/ composer music documents to assess royalties payable to select artists. YRF cooperated with their endeavour."
Earlier Bhushan Kumar of T-Series and Vikram Mehra of Saregama Music also were asked to record a statement for the ED. The ED is trying to determine the exact amount that these companies own to musicians in terms of royalty.
As per law, lyricists and composers are entitled to 50 percent royalties earned by the companies. But these dues have been pending since 2012.
According to a report in Asian Age, T-Series has collected royalties worth Rs 2,000 crores in the last 6 years of which 50 percent was to be giving to the lyricists and composers. So far no payment has been made.
