"It was a smooth operation and all the six terrorists have been neutralised," said Swayam Prakash Pani, the Inspector General of Police (Kashmir Range).

A police official said arms and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site, adding the identity and group affiliation of the slain terrorists are being ascertained.

Security forces had launched a cordon and search operation in Arampora village in Awantipora area of the south Kashmir district this morning following specific intelligence input about the presence of militants there, a police official said.

The police advised citizens not to venture inside the encounter zone as the area could be dangerous due to stray explosive materials.

They requested the people to cooperate with the police till the area was completely sanitised and cleared of all the explosives materials if any.
