A massive fire broke out in Lucknow's Chahbar's SSJ international hotel on Tuesday morning in which 4 people died and several have been injured. Around 50 people have been rescued from the building, S Pandey, IG Lucknow said.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath has announced Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia for families of the deceased and Rs 50000 to grievously injured due to fire.

Their cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem but the asphyxiation from smoke is likely to have caused their demise, reports said.

More than half a dozen fire tenders were rushed to the spot to contain the situation.

The cause of the fire is still being ascertained.

Pandey also said that if any lapse is found on the hotel's part during investigations, strict actions will be taken against the people concerned.
