
Conspiracy and terror charges have been filed against Indian Mujahideen co-founder Yasin Bhatkal and his associates by a Delhi court today.
Bhatkal has been associated with the September 2008 serial blasts in Delhi at areas like Ghaffar Market in Karol Bagh, Barakhamba Road and Greater Kailash. The tragedy claimed 26 lives and left 135 people injured.
The present case relates to the twin explosions at Greater Kailash-I in South Delhi; nine people were injured in the blasts at GK's M-block market. Five cases were lodged in connection to the blasts
Bhatkal and his associate Asadullah Akhtar were put on trial for various charges punishable under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Explosive Substances Act.
According to the police, Bhatkal and Akhtar, along with their associates, participated in the conspiracy to carry out the blasts at several places in Delhi on September 13, 2008.
The accused, represented by advocate M S Khan, pleaded not guilty. The court has posted the matter for further hearing on February 28.
The National Investigation Agency arrested Bhatkal from the Indo-Nepal border on August 28, 2013. Delhi Police later took him into custody.
