Mumbai: 225 flights cancelled following the airport runway closure

The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport to remain close on Tuesday as well following the yearly pre-monsoon maintenance work.

Following the closure, flight services were hit badly with various airlines cancelling or rescheduling the flights.

According to reports as many as 225 flights have been cancelled from Monday to Tuesday morning.

Flight services of Airlines including Jet Airways, IndiGo, SpiceJet, GoAir and Vistara were cancelled.

The primary city airport is the main base of Jet Airways for its both domestic and international operations.

Jet Airways cancelled 70 flights, including 54 domestic services, Air India decided not to operate 34 flights in view of the runway closure.

Jet Airways also rescheduled 70 flights, including 17 international ones, while Air India diverted four flights.

Jet Airways also announced a list of rescheduled and cancelled flights on its website.

SpiceJet and GoAir said they cancelled 18 and seven flights respectively, while Vistara said it did not operate six services.

On an average, there are 970 flight arrivals and departures at the Mumbai airport every day.

Passengers who are travelling during the time of 11am to 5 pm are advised to contact airline first to confirm the timings.

Earlier this year, several flights were cancelled and rescheduled at the primary international airport of Mumbai after a similar shut down carried by Mumbai International Airport Limited.

Reports say that Chhatrapati Shivani Maharaj International Airport is India's second busiest airport in terms of total passengers. It comes on number 14 on the list of the busiest airport in Asia.

The airport's passenger traffic crossed 45 million in 2016-17.
