Congress party passes resolution to name Rahul Gandhi as 'Leader of Opposition'

The Congress Working Committee (CWC) on Saturday (June 8) passed a resolution requesting Rahul Gandhi to take up the position of the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha.

“CWC unanimously requested Rahul Gandhi to take the position of the Leader of opposition in Lok Sabha. Rahul ji is the best person to lead this campaign inside the Parliament,” KC Venugopal, Congress party general secretary, said at a press conference.

"Rahul Gandhi told the CWC that he will take a decision very soon on becoming the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, said Venugopal.

Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Tiwari also said, "Definitely Rahul Gandhishould become LoP in Lok Sabha.He is fearless and courageous."

When being asked which seat Rae Bareli or Wayanad, will Rahul Gandhi keep, Venugopal replied, "This decision has to be taken before the June 17th and it will come in 3-4 days."

Rahul Gandhi won Lok Sabha polls from both Wayanad and Raebareli.

The CWC resolution praised Rahul Gandhi for his efforts in the election campaign.

"Rahul Gandhi deserves this, due to his design and leadership of the Bharat Jodo Yatra and the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. These Yatras, which reflected his vision and personality, marked historic turning points in our nation's politics and instilled hope and confidence in millions of our workers and voters," theresolution stated.

The Congress Working Committee commended its performance in the Lok Sabha polls. Party's improved performancewas credited to Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge.

The meetingwas attended by Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Manish Tewari, DK Shivakumar, Jairam Ramesh, KC Venogopal and Revanth Reddy among others.
