Jharkhand Assembly Election Results highlights: 'Hemant Soren will continue as Jharkhand CM'

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha candidate from Gandey and Chief Minister Hemant Soren's wife, Kalpana Soren, continued to lead from her seat in the Jharkhand state assembly election counting on Saturday.

According to the latest data by the Election Commission of India, Kalpana is leading on the seat by a margin of over 13,000 votes.

Expressing gratitude, Soren said, "I want to thank the people of Gandhey, Giridih, and the people of the state for showering love on me and blessing me like their daughter..."

Indian PM Narendra Modi Saturday congratulated JMM chief Hemant Soren for his victory in the Jharkhand assembly elections.

"I thank the people of Jharkhand for their support towards us. We will always be at the forefront of raising people’s issues and working for the state. 

I also congratulate the JMM-led alliance for their performance in the state," Modi wrote on X.

On counting for Jharkhand Election, Congress observer for the state Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, says "The results are good. The people have voted for us as the governance in the state is very good. Our leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi came here and spoke about the caste census and other issues...The people of the state have blessed us. JMM-Congress are getting good results and we are forming a govt with a comfortable majority."

JMM-led Mahagathbandhan continues its lead in the state by currently leading on 50 of the 81 seats, crossing the majority mark, as per official EC trends (JMM 30, Congress 14, RJD 4, CPI(ML)(L) 2) BJP-led NDA leading on 29 seats (BJP 27, AJSUP 1, LJPRV 1)

On counting for Jharkhand Election 2024 and Maharashtra Election 2024, CPI leader D Raja says, "These are all early trends. If these trends continue, then in Maharashtra, BJP and its allies will win and form the government. As far as Jharkhand is concerned, JMM and Congress and its allies are sure to form the government. Let us wait for the final outcome and the verdict of the people of Maharashtra and Jharkhand. The people of Jharkhand are not at all convinced by the campaign unleashed by BJP and its leaders. The way they were raising the issue of infiltration and corruption could not convince the people of Jharkhand..."

Latest trends from the ECI showed that the INDIA bloc is leading in Jharkhand. The INDIA bloc comprises the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), the Congress, and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) along with smaller parties. Trends show that the INDIA bloc is leading is 50 seats in Jharkhand, crossing the majority mark of 40 seats.

"It is a proud moment for BJP and NDA that people are giving their blessings to them. We are confident that we will secure victory in Maharashtra, Jharkhand and UP (Bypolls)," BJP leader Gaurav Bhatia told news agency PTI.

The INDIA bloc (Congress, JMM, and the RJD) is leading in six seats in the state while the BJP is leading in three seats, early trends from the Election Commission of India (ECI) show.

"...I am hopeful to win. NDA will form its government in Jharkhand with a huge majority. The way current government is running in Jharkhand, they have set records for corruption. No work has been done by this govt. The public is in the mood for a change...," BJP's CP Singh told the news agency ANI.

The majority of the exit polls revealed that the BJP-led NDA alliances would win Jharkhand. 

However, Axis MyIndia has predicted a 45 per cent vote share for the INDIA bloc and 37 per cent for the NDA.

Counting for all 81 seats in Jharkhand has started. The trends will be known in the next few hours. 

 The key contest is between the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led INDIA alliance and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Jharkhand BJP President Babulal Marandi expressed confidence that the BJP-led NDA alliance will win more than 51 seats in Jharkhand. 

The counting of votes in Jharkhand will take place on Saturday, November 23. The counting will begin at 8:00 AM.
