Premier League: Kieran McKenna pens contract extension at Ipswich Town amid interest from Manchester United
Manchester United managerial target Kieran McKenna has penned a contract extension at Ipswich Town on Thursday (May 30), bringing an end to his links away from the club. McKenna, who helped Ipswich gain back-to-back promotion signed a four-year deal that will see him stay at the helm of the Premier League side until 2028. With McKenna’s future secured the club will now look to focus in the transfer window as they try to build a squad for the Premier League 2024-25 season.

"I am extremely proud to have signed a new contract with the club," McKenna told Ipswich's website.
"We have enjoyed incredible success together over the last two seasons and I'm excited to have the opportunity and responsibility of leading this fantastic club into its first season in the Premier League in 22 years," he further said.
McKenna was a reported target for Manchester United as the club is considering sacking current boss Erik ten Hag after a dismal Premier League season. His stint with United as an academy coach saw him being a natural candidate had United decided to pull the plug. He was also on the radar of Chelsea who pulled out of the race to sign McKenna earlier this week and will instead sign another promoted manager Enzo Maresca who was with Leicester City.

The Northern Irishman added: "Preparation and planning for the challenge ahead has been ongoing since we won promotion at the beginning of May, with plenty of work still to do before the start of the new season at what is such an exciting time for everyone at the club.”
The 38-year-old took charge of Ipswich in 2021 when the club was third in League One (third tier of English football). Hehelped the club gain promotion in the 2022-23 season to the Championship before achieving a historic promotion to the Premier League. The upcoming season will be Ipswich’s first since the 2001-02 season when they finished 18th and were relegated from the Premier League.
