'I would love to stay': Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola hints at contract extension amid exit talks

Premier League: Man City have rest 'advantage' in Arsenal showdown - Pep Guardiola

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has hinted at a possible contract extension at the club as he enters the crucial phase of his tenure. Speaking ahead of a friendly match against AC Milan in New York, Guardiola stated that he could be open to signing a new deal and extending his contract. As things stand, the City boss will be out of contract at the end of the upcoming 2024-25 season with them. However, the latest comments by Guardiola could see him stay in the Premier League beyond the 2024-25 season.

Pep Guardiola hints at contract extension

"When I'm leaving, I will say I'm leaving, but I didn't say that," Guardiola, who has led City to six Premier League titles, two FA Cups and a maiden Champions League among a host of honours, told reporters in New York.

"We will see what happens. But I will not rule it out absolutely to extend my contract. I would love to stay because I would love to stay,” Guardiola added.

Arguably the most successful manager in the history of the club, Guardiola is a popular figure in Manchester. However, links in recent times have seen him get linked away from the club including a move to international football management. The Spaniard has already won all the possible honours during his tenure as Manchester City boss including a treble of Premier League, Champions League and the FA Cup in 2023.

He has so far won six Premier League titles, with only Sir Alex Ferguson winning more with 13. He also led Man City to four consecutive Premier League titles with their latest win in the 2023-24 season which also saw them become the first nation to achieve the feat.

A move away from Man City could still be possible for the former Bayern Munich and Barcelona manager with the England manager job also a possibility. The national team job is currently vacant after Gareth Southgate stepped from his role having failed to lead England to Euro 2024 glory.
