Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp returns as head of Red Bull football operations

Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is back in football after he was announced as the head of operations of football for Red Bull on Wednesday (Oct 9). Klopp, in May, left Liverpool after nine years as in charge of the Merseyside club and will now resume duties at Red Bull. The move comes after Klopp was without a club and was heavily linked with moves with the English national side and Bayern Munich.

Klopp to start new role with Red Bull

According to a statement released by the company, "Klopp will not interfere in the day-to-day business of the clubs, but rather take on a higher-level strategic position."

Klopp himself said: "I see my role primarily as a mentor for the coaches and management of the Red Bull clubs."

"After nearly 25 years on the sidelines, I couldn't be more excited to be involved in a project like this."

The proposed move will materialise from 1 Jan 2025 and he will work closely with Red Bull franchises in Austria, Germany and the United States. The former Reds manager waved goodbye to Liverpool having won the League Cup in his final season but was largely popular with the Liverpool fans for helping them win the Premier League in 2020.

The title win was their first in 30 years while he also won the Champions League in 2019 after a dramatic season. Apart from winning the Premier League, he twice led Liverpool to second place finishes in the Premier League, both times ending the season one point behind champions Manchester City.

According to Sky Germany, the contract with Red Bull includes an exit clause which could see him take a future role with another side. His role includes advice to teams on playing style, transfer strategy coaching and development. However, his role won’t include any day-to-day operations with the football clubs associated with Red Bull.
