England footballer Jude Bellingham is facing a probe by UEFA for allegedly 'breaching the basic rules of decent conduct' during the Round of 16 match against Slovakia in the ongoing Euro 2024 on Sunday (June 30).

Bellingham allegedly motioned to grab his crotch in front of Slovakia's bench during the extra time.

It is to be noted that it was Bellingham's stunning bicycle kick goal inthe second last minute of the stoppage time was the reasongame went intoextra time.

The footballer is, however, unlikely to get banned but a fine could be the punishment mitigated to him, reported sports news website ESPN citing a source.

Reacting to the incident, the 21-year-old English footballer had said that it was an 'inside joke to friends' in a post on social media. However, UEFA has decided to go ahead with the investigation.

"A UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector will conduct a disciplinary investigation regarding a potential violation of the basic rules of decent conduct by the English Football Association player, Jude Bellingham, having allegedly occurred in the scope of this match," read a statement by UEFA which was released on Monday (Jul 1).

"Information on this matter will be made available in due course," it further added.

In a similar incident duringthe 2019 Champions League, Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone were also found guilty of the same. Both of themskipped bans but were fined approximately $21,000.

As for the match, England were almost done and dusted before Bellingham's goal. England skipper Harry Kane then scored the go-ahead goal in the first minute of the extra time and England went on to win the game 2-1.

England, who were the finalists in the last edition of the tournament, will now face Switzerland in the quarterfinals on Saturday (Jul 6).
