Bayern Munich close to signing relegated Burnley boss Vincent Kompany as next manager

Bayern Munich are close to signing Vincent Kompany as the new manager to replace outgoing Thomas Tuchel after an extended search that has seen several top-level coaches snub the Bavarian club.

According to British media reports, Bayern are in advanced talks withBurnleywhere Kompanyis currently employedas the head coach. Burnley's owner, AlanPacehas held conversations with Bayern officialswhilethe Belgian has already given his nod for the move to Germany.

Kompany is on the verge of gettingthe high-profile jobdespite having a disappointing campaign withBurnleywhere the clubwas relegatedto the Championship. After a high-flying promotion to the Premier League, Kompany could not adjust to the rigours of top-tier footballasBurnley finished the season with only 24 points in 38 matches on the 19th position, ahead of Sheffield United.

Kompany has Bundesliga experience, having played at Hamburg before joining Manchester City. He is fluent in German as well which could have played a part in his selection as the Bayern boss.

Prior to Kompany, Bayern had been rejected by the likes of Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso, Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann and Austria manager Ralf Rangnick.

The former Manchester United managerconfirmed last month that he had been approached by Bayern over their soon-to-be vacant manager role. However, Rangnick added that he was not sure if he would take up the opportunity.

There were rumors about Hansi Flick returning to the position but the Bayern upper hierarchy apparently turned down the proposal.

Tuchelsackedby Bayern

In February, the record Bundesliga champions announced they had decided to terminate their collaboration withThomas Tuchel at the end of the ongoing season despite his contract running till 2025.

Tuchel, the former Chelsea manager, took over the reins in March last year from Nagelsmann who was sacked rather unceremoniously by the former Bayern board. While Tuchel did lead Bayern to a Bundesliga title last season, he could not emulate a similar performance in the 23-24 season as Bayer Leverkusen won the title for the first time in their history.

Bayern crashed out of the Champions League as well after losing to Real Madrid in the dying seconds of the second leg at Bernabeu.
