Vijay Deverakonda auctioned his 1st Filmfare award for ‘good chunk of money’, calls it a piece of stone

VijayDeverakondais not very fond of keeping his awards, and this wasproved after his recent comment that has taken the internet by storm. In Indian cinema, the Filmfare award is one of the most prestigious awards for an actor or a person part of this showbiz world. However, for Vijay Deverakonda it's just a piece of stone, and he would prefer a bigchunk of money over it.

Deverakonda, who is predominantly known for his work in the south Indian industry, is currently gearing up for the release of his movie Family Star co-starring Mrinal Thakur. While promoting his recent movie, Vijay shocked everyone as he went on to reveal that he had auctioned his first Filmfare trophy.

During his interview with Galatta Plus, the actor shared that he's not much into ''certificates and awards.''

“I am not so much into certificates and awards. Some might be at the office, some my mom has kept somewhere. Some awards I gave away… one award I gave away to Sandeep Reddy Vanga,'' he said.

The actor further revealed that he had auctioned his first Filmfare award that he won for his breakthrough performance in Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Arjun Reddy.

Saying that the money is way nicer than a piece of stone, he said, ''We auctioned the first Filmfare Best Actor award that I got. We auctioned it and got a good chunk of money that we gave away. I think that’s a nicer memory for me than a piece of stone in my house.”

If reports are to be believed, the Telugu actor sold his first prestigious Filmfare award for Rs 25 lakh in 2018 and gave the money to the CM Relief Fund.

In the same interview, the actor also reflected on playing the varied roles in his movie.

''When I select a script, it can’t be niche. My films take a lot of time and usually are made in a span of one to one-and-a-half years. Family Star is the only film that was completed within nine months. So if I come up with a niche film, my audience, who has been eagerly waiting for my film to release, will be disappointed.”

“I am in that age group where young people connect with me as well as the older age group who come to see my films with their kids. I need to entertain all of them. I know I am restricting myself but I won’t make choices that are either too dark or too niche. I heard a bunch of scripts that were too dark,” he added.

Vijay will next be seen in Parasuram Petla’s Family Star, which will be released on April 5.
